Brigitte Mira

Brigitte Mira (April 20, 1910 – March 8, 2005) was a prominent German actress celebrated for her impactful contributions to both stage and screen, particularly in collaboration with influential director Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

Born in Hamburg to a German mother and a Jewish Russian father, Mira's early career took an unexpected turn during the Nazi regime. She participated in the propaganda series *Liese und Miese*, portraying Miese, a character depicted as a negative influence according to Nazi standards. However, her talent transformed this role into one that resonated with audiences, leading to the show's cancellation due to its unintended popularity. Unbeknownst to the producers, Mira's mixed heritage placed her at personal risk, and she later faced criticism for her involvement in the series.

After relocating to Berlin, Mira became a quintessential figure representing the city's distinct humor through her television work. One of her most notable performances was as Emmi Kurowski in *Fear Eats the Soul* (1974), a role that earned her a prestigious German Film Award. In the 1980s, she experienced renewed success with the hit television series *Drei Damen vom Grill*, further solidifying her legacy in German entertainment.
