Cut Chemist
Cut Chemist, born Lucas Macfadden in Hollywood, California, has been a prominent figure in the music scene for nearly three decades. His passion for DJing ignited at the tender age of 11, and by 14, he was already recording music with friends, including Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, in a makeshift recording studio crafted from a sun patio by his father. By 21, he co-founded the influential hip-hop collective Jurassic 5 and the Grammy-winning Latin funk band Ozomatli. His work with these groups broadened his musical horizons, allowing him to blend diverse global rhythms with his foundational hip-hop roots.
Cut Chemist garnered acclaim for his innovative mix-tapes and remixes, solidifying his reputation with the release of his instrumental project, *Lesson 6: The Lecture*. Collaborating with DJ Shadow, he produced a series of celebrated mix CDs: *Brainfreeze*, *Product Placement*, and *The Hard Sell*, the latter of which made waves by debuting at the iconic Hollywood Bowl.
In 2006, Cut Chemist embarked on a solo career with *The Audience is Listening*, released under Warner Bros. Seeking creative independence, he later established his own boutique label, from which he released notable works such as *Sound Of The Police*, *Funk Off Mega Mix*, and his sophomore effort, *Die Cut*. Each of these albums showcases his boundary-pushing artistry and introduces listeners to a wealth of obscure musical treasures.
