Mabel King

Mabel Elizabeth King (originally Mabel Washington; born December 25, 1932 - died November 9, 1999) was a talented American actress and singer. She gained widespread recognition for her character Mabel "Mama" Thomas on the ABC sitcom What's Happening!!, which aired from its debut in 1976 until the conclusion of its second season in 1978. Additionally, King is celebrated for her portrayal of Evillene the Witch, a role she first brought to life in the stage musical The Wiz, and later reprised in the 1978 film adaptation directed by Sidney Lumet. Throughout her career, she also recorded music under the labels Rama Records and Amy Records.
