Plot

Bingo Long, a disillusioned star pitcher, grows tired of his oppressive Negro League team owner and decides to create his own team. He enlists the talents of powerful hitter Leon Carter and ambitious Charlie Snow, who aspires to reach the major leagues. Facing boycotts from other black teams, they find themselves competing against white minor league clubs, where they gain notoriety more for their entertainment value than athletic prowess. Their unexpected success eventually opens the door for them to return to the Negro League, this time on equal footing.
