13 titles Acting Sep 23, 1938 Died: Dec 03, 2004 Eisenstadt, Burgenland, Austria

Maria Perschy (September 23, 1938 – December 3, 2004) was a renowned Austrian actress whose career spanned several continents and showcased her remarkable talent. Born in Eisenstadt, Burgenland, she relocated to Vienna at the age of 17 to pursue her passion for acting. After honing her craft in Vienna, she furthered her studies in Germany, which paved the way for her cinematic debut.

Perschy gained prominence with her performance in the film *Nasser Asphalt*, where she starred alongside Horst Buchholz. This success marked the beginning of her international journey, leading her through France, Italy, and Great Britain, ultimately reaching Hollywood. Among her noteworthy American films are the 1962 biopic *Freud*, where she delivered a compelling portrayal, and the 1964 comedy *Man's Favorite Sport?* featuring Rock Hudson.

Despite her earlier success, Perschy's Hollywood career waned by the late 1970s, leading her to take on smaller roles in television series such as *Hawaii Five-O* and *General Hospital*. A significant setback occurred in 1971 when she suffered a burn injury while filming in Spain, necessitating multiple surgeries before she could return to acting.

In 1985, she returned to Austria and continued to engage audiences with her performances in various plays and television series until her passing on December 3, 2004, due to cancer in Vienna, as reported by the Austrian state broadcaster ORF.
