Jared Christopher Martin was a prominent American actor renowned for his contributions to both film and television. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Steven "Dusty" Farlow in the iconic 1978 television series *Dallas*. In addition, he showcased his versatility through roles in notable science fiction series such as *The Fantastic Journey* and *War of the Worlds*.

Born in Manhattan, New York, on June 21, 1941, Martin was the son of Charles Elmer Martin, a talented cover artist and cartoonist for *The New Yorker*, and Florence Taylor, an artist and devoted homemaker. His passion for acting ignited at a young age, as he joined a local children's theater group at just ten years old. After completing his education at the Putney School, he attended Columbia University, where he shared a dorm with the future filmmaker Brian De Palma. During his college summers, he honed his craft by apprenticing with Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park.

Following his academic pursuits, Martin briefly worked at *The New York Times* as a copy boy and contributed book reviews for the Sunday edition.
