Peter Masterson
Carlos Bee Masterson Jr. was a versatile American talent—an actor, director, producer, and writer. He was particularly known for his collaborations with his cousin, the acclaimed writer Horton Foote. Masterson's acting career spanned from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s, with notable performances including his portrayal of Walter Eberhart in the 1975 film The Stepford Wives. His daughter, Mary Stuart Masterson, also featured in this film, playing one of his on-screen daughters. Throughout his career, he took on various roles in films such as Ambush Bay (1966), In the Heat of the Night (1967), Counterpoint (1968), Von Richthofen and Brown (1971), Tomorrow (1972), The Exorcist (1973), Man on a Swing (1974), and Gardens of Stone (1987).
In addition to acting, Masterson co-wrote the successful musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1978) alongside Larry L. King and its sequel, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public (1994). He produced the ABC movie "City in Fear" in 1980, which was based on an idea by screenwriter William Goldman. The cast featured Robert Vaughn and David Janssen in his final role. Masterson directed The Trip to Bountiful in 1985, earning Geraldine Page an Academy Award for Best Actress. His directing portfolio also includes works like Full Moon in Blue Water (1988) and The Only Thrill (1997). Masterson passed away at the age of 84 on December 18, 2018, following a fall at home, having battled Parkinson's disease for 14 years.
