James Nesbitt
James Nesbitt, born on January 15, 1965, in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, is a distinguished actor known for his versatility and compelling performances. Raised in the village of Broughshane and later Coleraine, he initially pursued a teaching career, inspired by his father's profession. However, after a year studying French at the University of Ulster, he shifted his focus to acting and enrolled at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, graduating in 1987.
Nesbitt's early career included diverse theatrical roles, from the musical "Up on the Roof" to the political drama "Paddywack." His film debut came in 1991 with "Hear My Song," where he portrayed talent agent Fintan O'Donnell. He achieved significant recognition with his role as Adam Williams in the hit series "Cold Feet" (1998-2003), earning him multiple awards, including a British Comedy Award.
His film career took off with "Waking Ned" (1998), where he played Finn, and later, he took on the challenging role of Ivan Cooper in "Bloody Sunday" (2002), a performance that garnered him a British Independent Film Award and a BAFTA nomination. Nesbitt also starred as Tommy Murphy in "Murphy's Law" (2001-2007), earning multiple IFTA nominations.
In 2007, he captivated audiences with his dual role in "Jekyll," earning a Golden Globe nomination. His extensive filmography includes collaborations with Liam Neeson in "Five Minutes of Heaven" (2009) and appearances in "The Hobbit" trilogy (2012/13). Outside of acting, Nesbitt is a dedicated patron of various charities and has served as Chancellor of the University of Ulster since 2010. He is married to former actress Sonia Forbes-Adam and is a proud father of two daughters.
