Jerry Haynes
Jerome Martin "Jerry" Haynes (January 31, 1927 – September 26, 2011) was an esteemed American actor hailing from Dallas, Texas, celebrated for his enduring contribution to children's television. He gained widespread recognition as Mr. Peppermint, a beloved character he portrayed for three decades on one of the longest-running local children's programs, Mr. Peppermint, which aired from 1961 to 1969. The show was later rebranded as Peppermint Place for its revival from 1975 to 1996, captivating generations of young viewers with its engaging content and Haynes' warm personality.
In addition to his iconic role on television, Haynes had a rich career in local and regional theater, showcasing his versatility as a performer. He made his mark in over 50 films, demonstrating his talent across various genres. A proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, class of 1944, Haynes also enjoyed a personal legacy as the father of Gibby Haynes, the frontman of the influential band Butthole Surfers.
