Julian Orchard
Julian Orchard received his education at Shrewsbury School before honing his craft at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He gained recognition for his vibrant portrayal of the Duke of Montague, a cousin to Prince Edward, in the enchanting 1976 film *The Slipper and the Rose*. Orchard's distinct flair shone through his regular appearances on Spike Milligan's *The World of Beachcomber*, where he embodied the whimsical poet Roland Milk, often characterized by his lanky, effete demeanor.
In 1969, he showcased his musical talents as Snodgrass in the BBC's adaptation of *Pickwick*. Orchard's versatility extended to the beloved Carry On film series, where he made memorable contributions, alongside his role in the risqué comedy *Adventures of a Private Eye* released in 1977.
His television credits also included a comedic turn as the "Minister for the Arts" in the *The Goodies* episode titled "Culture for the Masses" and a role as one of the "mechanicals" in a production of *A Midsummer Night's Dream*. In 1971, he portrayed the eccentric teacher Mr. Oliver Pettigrew in the series *Whack-O!*, a character that had originally been brought to life by Arthur Howard from 1956 to 1960. Additionally, Orchard captivated audiences as Cornelius Button, an eccentric grasshopper expert, in the 1971 children’s series *Grasshopper Island*, where his quirky charm left a lasting impression.
