Paul Copley

Paul Copley is a highly regarded British actor and voiceover artist with a career spanning several decades. Born on November 25, 1944, in Denby Dale, West Riding of Yorkshire, he was raised in a family with a strong connection to the arts, influenced by his father Harold's involvement in local amateur theater. Copley attended Penistone Grammar School and later pursued drama at the Northern Counties College of Education in Newcastle upon Tyne, earning an Associate of the Drama Board (ADB) in Drama. Before fully committing to acting, he taught English and Drama in Walthamstow.

In 1971, Copley joined the Leeds Playhouse Theatre-in-Education Company, marking the beginning of his professional acting journey. His talent was recognized in 1976 when he received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a New Play for his outstanding performance in John Wilson's *For King and Country*.

Copley's impressive body of work encompasses stage, film, television, and radio, making him one of the most versatile actors in the UK. He gained international fame for his portrayal of Mr. Mason, the farmer, in the acclaimed television series *Downton Abbey*, appearing in 16 episodes from 2011 to 2015.

Paul has been married to actress Natasha Pyne since 1972, a union that began when they both starred in a Leeds Playhouse adaptation of Frank Wedekind's *Lulu* in 1971.
