Paola Borboni
Paola Borboni was a renowned Italian film actress whose impressive career spanned an extraordinary nine decades. Entering the film industry in 1916, she made her debut in the silent film "Jacobo Ortis," directed by Giuseppe Sterni. Over her lifetime, Borboni featured in more than 80 films, showcasing her versatility and talent until 1990.
Initially, she appeared in several silent films before taking a 14-year hiatus from cinema to focus on her stage career. In 1925, she gained significant attention for her provocative role as a mermaid, where she controversially exposed her breasts as part of the character, a bold move that stirred public outrage at the time.
After her hiatus, Borboni returned to the screen in 1936 with Mario Mattoli's film "L'Uomo che sorride," marking the beginning of a prolific era in her career. Notable works include the 1952 film "Ai margini della metropoli," directed by Carlo Lizzani, where she shared the screen with prominent actors such as Massimo Girotti, Marina Berti, and Giulietta Masina.
Though her roles became less frequent in the following decades, she continued to act until her final appearance in the 1990 film "Blue Dolphin - L'avventura continua." Paola Borboni passed away from a stroke at the age of 95 on April 9, 1995, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in both film and theatre.
