Lee Scott
Harold Lee Scott, Jr. is a prominent American businessman recognized for his role as the third CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., a position he held from January 2000 to January 2009. Joining Wal-Mart in 1979, Scott played a pivotal role in maintaining the company's status as the largest retailer globally by revenue during his leadership. However, his tenure was marked by increasing scrutiny regarding the company’s environmental practices, labor relations, and overall economic impact.
Born and raised in Baxter Springs, Kansas, Scott earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Pittsburg State University. His contributions to Wal-Mart extended beyond his CEO role, as he has been a board member since 1999 and currently chairs the executive committee of the board of directors.
Under his guidance, Wal-Mart not only expanded its reach but also faced various challenges that prompted discussions about corporate responsibility. Scott's influence in the business world was recognized when he was named one of Time magazine's 100 "most influential people" in both 2004 and 2005.
Scott is married to Linda G. Scott and they have two children. His legacy continues to shape the retail industry, as he navigated both the growth and the controversies surrounding one of the world's most significant retail giants.
