Fay Compton CBE (September 18, 1894 – December 12, 1978) was a prominent English actress hailing from a distinguished theatrical family. Her father, Edward Compton, was an actor and manager, while her mother, Virginia Bateman, also made her mark in the acting world. Fay was surrounded by talent; her sister, Viola Compton, and various relatives were involved in the arts, with her grandfather, Henry Compton, being a celebrated figure in 19th-century theatre. Additionally, her brother was the noted author Compton Mackenzie.

Although Compton's film career spanned over fifty years and included more than forty films, her stage performances garnered greater acclaim. Some of her notable films include Odd Man Out (1947), Laughter in Paradise (1951), Othello (1952) directed by Orson Welles, The Haunting (1963), and I Start Counting (1969). On television, she starred in the 1965 play Land of My Dreams and played Aunt Ann in the 1967 adaptation of The Forsyte Saga, showcasing her versatility across radio, television, and recordings.
