Megumi Odaka embarked on her career in 1984 as a voice actress, lending her talents to the animated television series "Fushigi na Koala Blinky," also known as "Noozles" in the USA, where she portrayed the character Sandy Brown. Her film debut came in 1987 with Toho's "Taketori Monogatari" (also known as "Princess from the Moon"), where she played Akeno, a blind girl alongside Yasuko Sawaguchi's Kaguya. In 1988, she starred in the popular TV series "Hana no Asuka-gumi" ("Radiant Asuka Class"), depicting a rebellious 14-year-old girl, followed by a role in the NHK series "Seishun Kazoku" ("Youth Family") in 1989.

Odaka gained significant recognition after winning the "TOHO Cinderella Contest" in 1987, which led her to the iconic role of Miki Saegusa in "Godzilla vs. Biollante" (1989). Despite initial apprehension about the Godzilla costume, she formed a friendship with suit actor Kenpachiro Satsuma, and her performance captivated audiences. She reprised her role as Miki in several subsequent films within the Heisei series, including "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" and "Godzilla vs. Destoroyah." Her portrayal earned her a Japanese Academy Award for "Rookie of the Year" for her work in "Princess from the Moon."

Beyond acting, Megumi is also a talented singer, having released multiple singles, two albums—"Milky Cotton" (1988) and "Powder Snow" (1989)—as well as several photobooks and videos.
