Don Duong (August 27, 1957 – December 8, 2011) was a prominent Vietnamese actor recognized for his significant contributions to contemporary Vietnamese cinema. His career began in a local pharmaceutical company, but his passion for acting led him to study under the mentorship of renowned actor Nguyễn Chánh Tín. This training paved the way for his entry into the film industry, where he initially took on minor roles in low-budget productions. Through strategic collaborations with arthouse filmmakers, he gradually garnered attention and acclaim.

By the 1990s, Don Duong had become one of the most respected figures in Vietnamese cinema, earning the Best Actor award at the 1992 Vietnam Film Festival. He starred in several cult classics that resonated deeply with audiences, solidifying his status as a beloved actor. His international exposure increased after playing a pivotal role in the acclaimed film "Three Seasons" (1999) by Tony Bui, which opened doors to Hollywood opportunities.

However, his career faced turmoil in 2002 when he portrayed General Nguyễn Hữu An in Mel Gibson's "We Were Soldiers." The film faced backlash in Vietnam for its perceived inaccuracies, leading to public outcry against Don Duong's portrayal. Unable to cope with the ensuing backlash, he relocated to the United States, where he lived until his passing in 2011, leaving behind a complex legacy in Vietnamese cinema.
