Sir Nigel John Dermot "Sam" Neill, born on September 14, 1947, is a celebrated actor from New Zealand, renowned for his performances in both dramatic films and major box office successes. He is recognized as an "international leading man" and is viewed as one of the most adaptable performers of his era.

Originally from Northern Ireland, Neill is the son of a New Zealand father and an English mother. His family relocated to Christchurch in 1954. He garnered initial acclaim with his role in the movie *Sleeping Dogs* (1977), followed by prominent parts in films such as *My Brilliant Career* (1979), *Omen III: The Final Conflict*, *Possession* (both in 1981), *Evil Angels* (also known as *A Cry in the Dark*, 1988), *Dead Calm* (1989), *The Hunt For Red October* (1990), *The Piano* (1993), and *In the Mouth of Madness* (1994). Neill rose to worldwide fame for his portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in *Jurassic Park* (1993), a role he reprised in *Jurassic Park III* (2001) and *Jurassic World Dominion* (2022).

In addition to his film work, Neill has made numerous appearances in television series, featuring in guest and recurring roles on shows like *Reilly, Ace of Spies* (1983), *The Simpsons* (1994), *The Tudors* (2007), *Crusoe* (2008–2010), *Happy Town* (2010), *Alcatraz* (2012), and *Rick and Morty* (2019).
