Country Life (1994)

Plot

Set in the 1920s Australian countryside, Jack Dickens and his niece Sally toil on the family farm, providing for Jack's brother-in-law, Alexander, a self-proclaimed literary genius from London. Their tranquil life is disrupted when Alexander returns with his stunning young wife, Deborah, exposing his pretentiousness and intentions to sell the farm. Tensions rise as Jack fights to protect their home and livelihood. Blakemore artfully weaves in themes of Australia’s cultural independence and explores the pacifist and ecological ideals championed by the local doctor, Max Askey, enriching the narrative with depth and relevance.
