Carole Landis

Carole Landis, born Frances Lillian Mary Ridste on January 1, 1919, was a prominent American actress and singer who gained fame in the 1940s. She was notably signed as a contract player with Twentieth Century-Fox, where she showcased her talents in a variety of films. Landis achieved significant recognition for her role as the leading lady in the 1940 adventure film One Million B.C., released by United Artists, which solidified her status in Hollywood. Her striking figure earned her the nicknames "The Ping Girl" and "The Chest," contributing to her memorable presence on screen.

Despite her success, Landis faced personal struggles, particularly in her romantic life. She was deeply affected by her relationship with actor Rex Harrison, who declined to leave his wife for her. This emotional turmoil took a toll on her mental health. Tragically, on July 5, 1948, Landis took her own life in her Pacific Palisades residence, succumbing to an overdose of Seconal.
