Sally Gray, born Constance Vera Stevens on February 14, 1916, in Holloway, London, was a prominent English actress renowned for her work in films during the 1930s and 1940s. She honed her craft at Fay Compton’s School of Dramatic Art, gaining early experience in theater before transitioning to the silver screen.

Gray's film career kicked off with a small role in *School for Scandal* (1930), but she truly made her mark starting in 1935, appearing in nearly twenty films. One of her most notable performances was in Brian Desmond Hurst’s romantic drama *Dangerous Moonlight* (1941), which showcased her talent for portraying complex emotions. After a hiatus due to personal struggles, she made a significant comeback in 1946, starring in a series of impactful melodramas, including *Green for Danger* and *Carnival*.

Her work often reflected the postwar British experience, as seen in *They Made Me a Fugitive* (1947) and *Silent Dust* (1948). Gray also ventured into film noir with *Obsession* (1949). In 1952, she starred in her final film, *Escape Route*, before retiring from acting.

Despite offers from RKO executives for a long-term contract in the U.S., Gray chose to step back from the limelight after marrying Dominick Browne, 4th Baron Oranmore and Browne. The couple resided in County Mayo, Ireland, before returning to London in the 1960s, where they lived in Belgravia until her passing on September 24, 2006.
