John Hart
John Lewis Hart, also known as John Hilton, was an American actor renowned for his work in film and television. His career took off in 1937 with a small role in *Daughter of Shanghai*, and he soon became a familiar face in Westerns, often appearing in a variety of B-movies such as *Prison Farm* and *King of Alcatraz*. Hart also had notable roles in two of Cecil B. DeMille's films, *The Buccaneer* and *North West Mounted Police*. His acting journey was briefly interrupted in 1941 when he enlisted in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of first sergeant during his service in the Philippines.
Upon returning to civilian life, Hart frequently collaborated with producer Sam Katzman and took on lead roles, including in the Jack Armstrong film serial. His most significant break came in 1952 when he was cast as the titular character in the television series *The Lone Ranger*, stepping in for Clayton Moore for a single season. Despite his similar appearance and background in Westerns, Hart struggled to win over the audience, leading to Moore's return by 1954.
Hart's extensive career spanned over two decades, featuring guest appearances in beloved shows like *I Love Lucy* and *Happy Days*, along with a memorable role in *Perry Mason*. He starred in *The Adventures of Captain Africa* in 1955 and later appeared in the 1970 film *The Phynx*, parodying his iconic role. Hart's final film appearance was in *The Legend of the Lone Ranger* in 1981, and he continued to inspire as an actor until his later years.
