Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen, born on November 22, 1965, is a prominent Danish actor celebrated for his diverse roles in film and television. He first garnered attention in Denmark through his performances as Tonny in the acclaimed Pusher trilogy (1996, 2004) and as Detective Sergeant Allan Fischer in the popular series Rejseholdet (2000–2004). His early film work included notable characters such as Niels in Open Hearts (2002), Svend in The Green Butchers (2003), Ivan in Adam's Apples (2005), and Jacob Petersen in After the Wedding (2006).

Mikkelsen gained international fame for his portrayal of Le Chiffre, the primary antagonist in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale. His illustrious career continued with memorable roles such as Igor Stravinsky in Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (2008), Johann Friedrich Struensee in A Royal Affair (2012), and Lucas in The Hunt (2012), for which he received the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival. He has appeared in blockbuster films, including Marvel's Doctor Strange (2016) as Kaecilius and Rogue One (2016) as Galen Erso. Mikkelsen is also known for his portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the critically acclaimed series Hannibal (2013–2015) and Cliff Unger in the video game Death Stranding (2019). A. O. Scott of The New York Times described Mikkelsen as a "reliable character actor" in Hollywood while recognizing him as a major star in the resurgence of Danish cinema.
