Alma Rubens (February 19, 1897 – January 22, 1931) was a prominent American actress known for her work in both film and theater during the early 20th century. Rubens began her artistic journey in the mid-1910s, achieving rapid fame in 1916 with her performance alongside Douglas Fairbanks in the film *The Half Breed*. Throughout that year, she showcased her talent in several other productions, including *Reggie Mixes In* and *The Mystery of the Leaping Fish*, cementing her status as a rising star.

Her entry into theater came unexpectedly when she replaced an ailing chorus girl in a musical comedy troupe, where she met fellow performer Franklyn Farnum. Encouraged by Farnum, Rubens transitioned to the film industry, quickly gaining popularity with standout roles. In 1917, she starred in *The Firefly of Tough Luck*, further expanding her audience. In 1918, to avoid confusion with other names, she officially changed her surname from Rueben to Rubens, humorously noting her struggles with the correct spelling.

As the 1920s progressed, she continued to make her mark with films like *The World and His Wife* and *The Price She Paid*. However, her promising career was marred by a struggle with addiction, which contributed to her early decline. Tragically, Rubens passed away from pneumonia shortly after a narcotics-related arrest in January 1931. She was laid to rest in Fresno, California. In recognition of her contributions to cinema, Alma Rubens was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6409 Hollywood Blvd.
