John Indrisano
John Indrisano, known as Johnny, was born in East Boston into a family facing significant financial hardships. Determined to change his circumstances, he committed himself to a career in boxing, amassing an impressive record of 155 amateur bouts before turning professional. Between 1924 and 1934, he established himself as a formidable fighter, participating in 83 main events and securing victory in 80 of them. His notable achievements include defeating five world champions, with key victories against Joe Dundee (in a non-title fight), Nick Testo, Johnny Freeman, Sig Keppen, and Sammy Baker.
After retiring from the ring in 1934, Indrisano transitioned into a role as a boxing referee, where he served until 1949. His expertise in the sport led him to coach numerous Hollywood stars, ultimately evolving into a sought-after boxing adviser for films. Among the celebrities he trained were iconic actors such as John Garfield, Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant, Mickey Rooney, and Ricardo Montalban, alongside character roles in various productions.
Tragically, Johnny Indrisano's life came to an end on July 9, 1968, in San Fernando Valley, California, under circumstances that remain shrouded in mystery, with reports suggesting a potential suicide. His legacy, however, endures through his contributions to both boxing and the film industry.
