There, he honed his craft under the tutelage of renowned dramatists Jean-Louis Barrault and Pierre Berlin.

Following his education at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin, Berkel made a name for himself on stage, performing in prominent theaters in Augsburg, Düsseldorf, Munich, Vienna, and the Schiller Theatre in Berlin.
