Mohamed Fellag, born Mohand Fellag on March 31, 1950, in Azeffoun, Algeria, is a distinguished Algerian actor, humorist, and writer recognized for his unique blend of Berber, Arabic, and French in his performances. Growing up in the Kabylie region, he spoke only Kabyle until moving to Algiers at the age of eight, where he learned Algerian Arabic and French.

Fellag's early life was marked by tragedy; his father, an activist during the Algerian War of Independence, died in a car accident when he was just 15. He pursued his passion for the performing arts at the National Institute of Dramatic and Choreographic Art in Algiers from 1968 to 1972. After establishing his theater company, he toured various venues, including prisons and factories. In 1978, he emigrated to Quebec, followed by a move to Paris in 1982, where he faced early struggles before returning to Algeria in 1985.

Fellag gained acclaim with his first major work, "Les Aventures de Tchop," in 1986. His notable play "Babor Australia," created in 1991, humorously portrayed the absurdity of a rumored boat from Australia meant to transport unemployed Algerians. This work was later adapted and performed in multiple languages.

During the Algerian Civil War, Fellag continued to create impactful works, including "Djurdjurassique Bled," which won the Critics' Union Prize for theatrical revelation in the 1997-1998 season. He was in a long-term relationship with actress Marianne Épin, who directed many of his later shows until her passing in 2017.
