Arj Barker
Arjan Singh Āulakh, popularly known as Arj Barker, was born on August 12, 1974, in San Anselmo, California. This talented American comedian and actor has made a significant impact on the comedy scene across North America, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. Barker's diverse heritage includes an Indian Punjabi Sikh father and a European descent mother, which adds a unique flavor to his comedic style.
Barker's journey in comedy began right after high school in 1989, where he first showcased his talent at Caffe Nuvo, hosting a weekly stand-up night throughout the early '90s. His breakthrough came in 1997 with an appearance on the stand-up showcase Premium Blend, leading to further opportunities on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the series The Glass House. He also hosted Comedy Central Presents on two occasions, once in 2000 and again in 2006, and lent his voice to Comedy Central's animated series Shorties Watchin' Shorties.
In addition to his stand-up career, Barker co-wrote and starred in The Marijuana-Logues, an Off-Broadway hit that humorously parodied The Vagina Monologues. He gained recognition in Australia after debuting at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2000 and became a household name there, even winning the ARIA Music Award for Best Comedy Release in 2019 for his album Organic.
Barker is also known for his role as Dave in the HBO series Flight of the Conchords. However, he attracted controversy during the 2024 Melbourne International Comedy Festival when he asked a breastfeeding mother to leave his show, igniting a media frenzy.
