Marisa Pavan
Marisa Pavan, originally named Maria Luisa Pierangeli, was born on June 19, 1932, in Italy and passed away on December 6, 2023. She initially garnered attention as the twin sister of renowned actress Pier Angeli (Anna Maria Pierangeli) but soon carved her own niche in the film industry. Pavan's career took off with her notable performance in "The Rose Tattoo," where she portrayed the daughter of Anna Magnani. This role was initially meant for her twin sister, who was unable to take it on. Pavan had the honor of accepting the Academy Award for Best Actress on Magnani's behalf when she won, as Magnani was absent from the ceremony. Pavan's performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, although she ultimately lost to Jo Van Fleet for her role in "East of Eden." Both actresses were recognized with Golden Globe Awards that year.
Throughout her career, Pavan appeared in several significant films, including "The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit," "Diane," "John Paul Jones," and "The Midnight Story." In her personal life, she married in 1956 and later divorced in 1963, before remarrying French actor Jean-Pierre Aumont in 1969, a union that lasted until his passing in 2001. Pavan's contributions to cinema and her enduring legacy continue to be celebrated.
