Michael Robbins
Michael Robbins, born in London, initially worked as a bank clerk before discovering his passion for acting through amateur theatre in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, where he resided with his family. He launched his television career with a memorable role as a cockney soldier in *Roll-on Bloomin' Death*. However, Robbins is most renowned for portraying Arthur Rudge, the wryly humorous husband of Olive (played by Anna Karen) in the beloved sitcom *On the Buses*, which aired from 1969 to 1973. His character provided a secondary comedic angle to the escapades of Reg Varney’s character at the bus depot, and Robbins reprised this role in the series' film adaptations: *On the Buses*, *Mutiny on the Buses*, and *Holiday on the Buses*.
Robbins also showcased his comedic talent in various other popular shows, including *Man About the House*, *Oh Brother!*, *The Good Life*, and *One Foot in the Grave*, among others. He demonstrated versatility by taking on serious roles in major British series such as *Minder*, *The Sweeney*, and *Doctor Who*.
In addition to his television work, Robbins appeared in films like *The Whisperers*, *Up The Junction*, and *The Pink Panther Strikes Again*. A dedicated radio actor, he featured in the soap opera *Waggoner's Walk* and the satirical series *Life is What Yer Make It*.
Beyond his entertainment career, Robbins was deeply involved in charitable efforts, earning the title of 'Rat of the Year' from the Grand Order of Water Rats in 1978 and receiving a Papal Award in 1987 for his service. He often reflected on his childhood experiences and faith in his later work, leaving behind a legacy of humor and compassion.
