John Lacy, born on August 29, 1965, is a versatile American actor, director, and writer based in Los Angeles. Hailing from Iowa City, Lacy grew up in a literary family; his father, Robert Lacy, was a writer who studied at the prestigious Iowa Writer's Workshop under the guidance of renowned authors such as Kurt Vonnegut and Richard Yates. The family later moved to Minneapolis, where Robert served as a speechwriter for Senator Nick Coleman. John's mother, Lyn Ellen Lacy, is a noted educator and author focused on children's visual literacy, while his siblings have pursued their own successful careers—his brother Peter in corporate culture innovation and his sister Ruth as a museum curator.
Lacy's acting journey began in 1988 with appearances in commercials and music videos. After honing his craft through stage performances and the Meisner technique, he landed guest roles in popular sitcoms and made a significant impact with his portrayal of 'Fector' in Nancy Savoca's film Dogfight. Over the years, he has built an impressive resume, featuring in top television shows and commercials, and drawing acclaim for his role as Howard Madson in the 2019 FX series American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace.
In addition to acting, Lacy is a dedicated mentor for aspiring performers, running The Lacy Group Acting Studio in Burbank, which has nurtured numerous emerging talents. He has also created the acclaimed web series Crime Noir: The Reveal and the comedic series The Adventures of Hollywood & Vine. His feature film debut, Custody Road, garnered the Best Editing award at the Auckland International Film Festival and became available on major streaming platforms. His second feature, Rosebud Lane, is set for release in August 2021. Since 1994, Lacy has been happily married to Karin Lacy, and together they have three sons.
