Plot
Eddie Birdlace, an 18-year-old Marine Corps recruit, is gearing up to head to Vietnam in the autumn of 1963, accompanied by his close friends. As a farewell celebration in San Francisco, they organize a raucous contest known as a "dogfight." This event pits the Marines against each other in a competition to find the least attractive date. Amid the revelry, Eddie meets Rose, a spirited waitress, leading him to re-evaluate the harsh realities of love, friendship, and the impending war that awaits. The night transforms into a poignant journey of self-discovery and unexpected connections.
