James Daniel May, born on January 16, 1963, is a prominent English television presenter, journalist, and author. He gained widespread recognition as a co-host of the popular motoring show Top Gear, alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. May has explored a diverse range of topics through various television programs, delving into science and technology, childhood toys, culinary adventures, and the challenges of masculinity in contemporary society.
In addition to his television work, May has authored several books and produced numerous DVDs that reflect his interests. He also contributes a weekly column to The Daily Telegraph, focusing on automotive topics. Known for his careful driving approach, May earned the nickname "Captain Slow" on Top Gear, which highlights his fondness for smaller, less powerful cars and his tendency to become sidetracked while driving.
One of May's most notable achievements came in February 2007, when he conducted a successful top speed test of the Bugatti Veyron at the Ehra-Lessien Volkswagen test track, achieving an impressive speed of 407 kilometers per hour (253 mph). He later repeated this feat in July 2010 with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, reaching a remarkable 417.6 kilometers per hour (259.5 mph), solidifying its status as the fastest production car at the time. May's contributions to the automotive world and his engaging television presence have made him a beloved figure in British entertainment.
