Nathan Keyes was born in Washington, D.C., to parents Holly and Dale Gumke, but spent his formative years in York, Pennsylvania, alongside his younger brother, Chris. His passion for the performing arts emerged early; at just seven years old, he crafted, produced, directed, and acted in a play inspired by The Tailor of Gloucester. By the age of eleven, he had already made his stage debut, showcasing his talent in various notable roles such as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, the Emcee in Cabaret, and Albert in Bye, Bye Birdie.

Keyes also took on significant themes in his work, starring in the impactful play Bang Bang, You're Dead, which addressed the serious issue of school violence and was performed in high schools across York County, Pennsylvania. He completed his education at York Suburban High School, which further fueled his artistic aspirations. In 2000, he co-founded the pop band "As 1," which became quite popular, performing in over seventy-five concerts throughout the northeastern United States.
