Margaret Sullavan
Margaret Brooke Sullavan (May 16, 1909 – January 1, 1960) was a prominent American actress known for her compelling performances both on stage and in film. She embarked on her acting journey in 1929, quickly making a name for herself. Her film debut came in 1933 under the direction of John M. Stahl in the movie *Only Yesterday*.
Despite her success in cinema, Sullavan had a strong preference for the theater, appearing in only 16 films throughout her career. She stepped away from the screen in the early 1940s but made a notable return in 1950 with her final film, *No Sad Songs For Me*, where she portrayed a woman facing terminal cancer. After this, she dedicated herself exclusively to live performances.
Sullavan's talent was recognized with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role in *Three Comrades* (1938). Tragically, her life came to a premature end when she died from a barbiturate overdose on January 1, 1960, at the age of 50. Her legacy continues to resonate in the world of performing arts, celebrated for her emotional depth and dedication to her craft.
