Tony Hippolyte

Tony Hippolyte, born in 1958 in West London to parents hailing from St. Lucia, was a versatile talent known for his work as an actor, theatre director, and musician. He gained widespread recognition for his iconic portrayal of Mr. Cool in Julien Temple's acclaimed 1986 film, *Absolute Beginners*. His acting repertoire also included memorable appearances in television series such as *Number 73*, *Prospects*, and *The Bill*, as well as the Screen Two film *Hallelujah Anyhow*.

In the early 1990s, Hippolyte relocated to Skelmersdale to be closer to his children, where he emerged as a significant figure in the vibrant Liverpool arts community. Despite his move, he maintained connections to London, where he performed with his musical ensemble, Fantompowa, showcasing his dual passion for acting and music.

Tony Hippolyte's life came to a close on May 17, 2016, when he passed away at a nursing home in Mawdesley following a brief battle with cancer. He was cremated on May 27, 2016, in St. Helens. His contributions to the arts continue to be remembered and celebrated, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of both London and Liverpool.
