Peter Dougan Capaldi, born on April 14, 1958, is a versatile Scottish actor, writer, and director. He is perhaps best known for his role as the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor in the iconic series Doctor Who and for his portrayal of Malcolm Tucker, the sharp-tongued spin doctor in The Thick of It. Capaldi's work in The Thick of It earned him four nominations for the British Academy Television Awards, culminating in a win for Best Male Comedy Performance in 2010. His performance as Tucker in the film In the Loop also garnered critical acclaim and several nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2012, Capaldi, alongside Tony Roche, created, directed, and starred in The Cricklewood Greats, a parody documentary that humorously explores the fictional history of a British film studio. Capaldi's film career includes notable roles such as Oldsen in Local Hero, Angus Flint in Ken Russell's The Lair of the White Worm, and Mr. Curry in both Paddington and its sequel, Paddington 2.

As a director, he won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film and a BAFTA for Best Short Film for his acclaimed short Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life. In addition, Capaldi wrote and directed the film Strictly Sinatra and led two series of the acclaimed sitcom Getting On, showcasing his diverse talents in the entertainment industry.
