**Peggy Ryan: A Bright Star of Musical Film**

Peggy Ryan, born Margaret O'Rene Ryan in 1924, emerged as a celebrated musical performer, captivating audiences with her dynamic dance moves and vivacious spirit. As a prominent figure at Universal Studios, she became renowned for her partnership with Donald O’Connor, often likened to the beloved duo of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. This creative pair dazzled audiences in a series of spirited WWII-era musicals where Peggy's talent extended beyond dance to encompass a delightful singing voice.

Her journey in show business began at a young age, as she graced the stage alongside her vaudevillian parents, "The Merry Dancing Ryans." Discovered by George Murphy, she made her film debut in the lively musical *Top of the Town* (1937). While she also appeared in dramas like *The Grapes of Wrath* (1940), it was her chemistry with O'Connor that truly shone through in films such as *What's Cookin’?* (1942) and *Private Buckaroo* (1942).

After the war, Peggy ventured into freelance work, collaborating with dancer Ray McDonald in films like *Shamrock Hill* (1949) and *All Ashore* (1953). Following her third marriage to Hawaiian media personality Eddie Sherman, she shifted focus to choreography and teaching tap dancing. She later made a memorable return to television as Millie in *Hawaii Five-O* (1968). In her later years, Peggy formed a dance troupe, "The TNT's," in Las Vegas. Despite health challenges, she remained vibrant until her passing on October 30, 2004, from complications related to strokes. Peggy Ryan’s legacy endures through her contributions to film and dance.
