Langley Kirkwood was born into a creative family, with his father being a poet and his mother an art educator. This rich artistic environment in his early years laid the groundwork for his passion for acting, which blossomed during his school days. He pursued drama studies at Johannesburg's prestigious Wits University, after which he quickly began his professional journey in theatre.

Kirkwood made a remarkable debut at Johannesburg's Market Theatre, where he portrayed Billy the Kid, earning critical acclaim and an award for his performance.
