Michal Dočolomanský
Michal Dočolomanský (March 25, 1942 – August 26, 2008) was a renowned Slovak actor, singer, moderator, and impersonator, whose impact on the performing arts in Slovakia remains significant. Born in Nedeca, which was part of the Slovak state at the time, he grew up in a large family with ten siblings. His early life was marked by a series of relocations, eventually settling in Svätý Jur after his father's death in 1954.
Initially trained as a car mechanic, Dočolomanský's passion for the arts emerged through amateur theatre, leading him to graduate from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in 1964. He subsequently joined the Slovak National Theater, where he showcased his talents for nearly four decades.
Dočolomanský's extensive career included performances in numerous Slovak and Czech films and television series. Notable works include "Sváko Ragan" (1976), "The Eleventh Commandment" (1977), and the acclaimed play "Na skle maľované," where he portrayed Jánošík from 1974 to 2002, amassing an impressive 642 performances.
His contributions to the arts were recognized with the Deserved Artist Award in 1982 and the Ľudovít Štúr 1st Class Council in 2007 for his extraordinary services to Slovakia. A memorial plaque was installed at his birthplace in 2010, commemorating his legacy. Dočolomanský passed away from lung cancer at the age of 66, leaving behind a rich cultural heritage.
