Plot
Set predominantly in a quaint Slovak village, this family saga unfolds over three decades from 1887 to 1917. The story begins with Martin Pichandu, who is dedicated to honing his skills as a mason. As the narrative progresses, his son takes the spotlight during a time of significant socio-political upheaval that ultimately leads to the outbreak of World War I. Initially broadcast as a four-part mini-series on Czechoslovakian television in 1983, the series was later condensed into a 163-minute theatrical version released in 1984.
