Sanjeev Kumar, born Harihar Jethalal Jariwala and affectionately called Haribhai, hailed from a traditional Gujarati family in Surat, Gujarat. His family later relocated to Mumbai, where he nurtured his passion for acting. Kumar's formal education in film began at a prestigious institute, paving the way for his illustrious career in Indian cinema. Renowned for his remarkable versatility, he became a highly esteemed actor.

Growing up with a sister and two younger brothers, he was proficient in Gujarati, Hindi, and English. Kumar's acting journey commenced on stage, performing with IPTA and the Indian National Theatre. Kumar won the National Film Award for Best Actor on two occasions for *Dastak* (1971) and *Koshish* (1973).
