Rodney Bingenheimer

Rodney Bingenheimer, born on December 15, 1947, is a prominent radio disc jockey known for his influential role at KROQ, a major rock station in Los Angeles. His keen ear for talent has played a significant part in propelling many iconic bands into the American music scene. Bingenheimer earned acclaim as the first American DJ to spotlight emerging artists, championing groundbreaking groups like Blondie, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, Duran Duran, The Cure, Joan Jett, No Doubt, Blur, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The Bangles, X, and Coldplay, among others.

In the early 1970s, he managed the now-legendary English Disco, an essential L.A. nightclub that fostered the city's vibrant music culture. His life and career were chronicled in the documentary "Mayor of the Sunset Strip," directed by George Hickenlooper, which showcased his journey from a groupie to a respected figure in the industry. Mick Jagger famously referred to him as a "famous groupie, now respectable," highlighting his unique position within the music world, where he has cultivated a vast network of high-profile friendships.

In recognition of his contributions, Bingenheimer received the 2,330th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007, cementing his legacy as a pivotal figure in the evolution of rock music in America.
