Doris Davenport, born Doris Jordan on January 1, 1917, in Moline, Illinois, emerged as an American film actress during the 1930s and early 1940s. Raised in Hollywood, California, she began pursuing her passion for acting, landing her first film role in 1934 with "Kids Millions."

Throughout her early career, from 1934 to 1939, Davenport appeared in only five films, supplementing her income as a fashion model in New York City. Her career took a significant turn when she auditioned under the name "Doris Jordan" for the iconic role of Scarlett O’Hara in the legendary film "Gone with the Wind." Although she became a finalist for the role, it ultimately went to Vivien Leigh.

Her talent caught the attention of MGM executive Samuel Goldwyn, who cast her in a leading role in the 1940 movie "The Westerner," where she starred alongside renowned actors Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan. That same year, she also featured in "Behind the News" with Lloyd Nolan. Unfortunately, this would mark the end of her acting career, as she did not receive further offers after these films.

Doris Davenport chose to retire from the spotlight and settled in Santa Cruz, California, where she remained until her passing on June 18, 1980, at the age of 63. Her brief yet impactful career left a lasting impression in the film industry.
