Gary Grimes, born on June 2, 1955, in San Francisco, is a former American actor known for his notable performances in the early 1970s. He gained prominence with his breakthrough role in the 1971 film *Summer of '42*, where he portrayed a young man involved in a romantic relationship with an older woman, played by Jennifer O'Neill. This remarkable performance earned him nominations for a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer—Male and a BAFTA Award for Best Newcomer in 1972.

Grimes reprised his role in the sequel *Class of '44* (1973), which depicted his character's journey through college. His filmography also includes significant roles in *Cahill U.S. Marshal* (1973) alongside the legendary John Wayne, as well as *The Spikes Gang* (1974) featuring Lee Marvin and Ron Howard. He even starred in the cult classic Disney film *Gus* (1976), which tells the quirky story of a mule that kicks field goals. Despite receiving offers for television roles during this time, he chose to decline those opportunities.

In the late 1970s, Grimes decided to step away from the entertainment industry, settling in Los Angeles and largely remaining out of the public eye. In a 2011 interview with *American Profile*, he expressed contentment with his choice, stating, "I got to the point where the work wasn't up to the quality that I wanted."
