Todd McFarlane

Todd McFarlane, born on March 16, 1961, in Canada, is a renowned cartoonist, writer, toy designer, and entrepreneur, celebrated primarily for his groundbreaking contributions to the comic book industry, particularly through his iconic series, Spawn.

McFarlane rose to prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a key artist for Marvel Comics' Spider-Man series, where his dynamic style captivated readers and redefined superhero art. In 1992, he co-founded Image Comics, a revolutionary publishing house that empowered creators, and resurrected the character Spawn from his teenage sketches, modernizing him for a new generation. The series quickly became a cultural phenomenon in the 1990s, spearheading a movement toward creator-owned comics.

After stepping back from his role as the primary inker of Spawn with issue #70 in February 1998, McFarlane shifted his focus toward entrepreneurial ventures. He founded McFarlane Toys, known for producing highly detailed action figures, and established Todd McFarlane Entertainment, a studio dedicated to film and animation. In 2006, he was appointed Art Director for 38 Studios, a game development company founded by baseball star Curt Schilling. Previously, McFarlane was a co-owner of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, although he eventually sold his stake to Daryl Katz. Additionally, he is known for his impressive collection of historic baseball memorabilia.
