Michael Powell
Michael Latham Powell (born 30 September 1905 – died 19 February 1990) was a distinguished English filmmaker, best known for his collaboration with Emeric Pressburger. Together, they formed the filmmaking duo "The Archers," creating a number of iconic British cinema masterpieces. Their notable works include The Thief of Bagdad (1940), 49th Parallel (1941), The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), A Matter of Life and Death (1946, also known as Stairway to Heaven), Black Narcissus (1947), and The Red Shoes (1948). Despite his impressive contributions to film, Powell faced significant backlash following the release of his 1960 film Peeping Tom, which drew heavy criticism and severely impacted his career.
