Robert Shayne, born Robert Shaen Dawe on October 4, 1900, in the United States, was an accomplished actor whose extensive career spanned over six decades. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Inspector Bill Henderson in the classic television series *Adventures of Superman*.

Prior to his acting career, Shayne worked as a journalist at the Illustrated Daily Tab in Miami, Florida. His foray into acting began with various repertory companies in Alabama, including the Birmingham Players. By 1931, he made his Broadway debut in *The Rap* and went on to appear in notable productions such as *Yellow Jack* (1934), *The Cat and the Canary* (1935), *Whiteoaks* (1938) alongside Ethel Barrymore, and *Without Love* (1942) with Katharine Hepburn.

Shayne's film career took off in 1934, and in 1942 he signed with Warner Bros., where he took on numerous character roles. He featured in the "Santa Fe Trail" series of short films, played a mad scientist in *The Neanderthal Man* (1953), and made a brief appearance in Alfred Hitchcock's *North by Northwest*. Additionally, he had a notable role as a scientist in the sci-fi classic *Invaders From Mars* (1953).

Later in his career, Shayne was cast as a blind newspaper vendor in *The Flash* television show, despite having lost his sight; he memorized his lines with the help of his wife. Throughout *Adventures of Superman*, Shayne's character evolved from sporadic appearances to a regular role, despite facing a brief blacklist due to accusations of Communist associations. He passed away on November 29, 1992.
