Frederick Arthur Round, known as Fred Emney, was an English character actor and comedian born on February 12, 1900, in Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of Blanche (née Round) and Fred Emney, a performer in the music hall tradition, and his family had a theatrical pedigree, with his great-uncle being the notable actor Arthur Williams. Emney spent his formative years in London and received his education at Cranleigh School.

Fred made his cinematic debut in 1935 after establishing himself in the music hall scene. He quickly became a well-known face on screen, often portraying the quintessential "posh fat bloke" character, characterized by his gruff demeanor and signature monocle. The 1950s marked a significant period in his career as he hosted his own television show, which showcased his comedic sketches and showcased his musical talents, featuring piano compositions he often created himself, with some tracks even released on records. Additionally, he had a brief stint performing as the straight man to the beloved puppet duo Pinky and Perky.

Emney's talent ran in the family, as his sister, Joan Emney, was also an actress, and they occasionally shared the stage in various productions. Fred Emney passed away on December 25, 1980, in Bognor Regis, Sussex, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances in entertainment.
