Viktor Robertovich Tsoi (Russian: Ви́ктор Ро́бертович Цой; 21 June 1962 – 15 August 1990) was a prominent Soviet and Russian singer-songwriter best known as a co-founder of Kino, a band that became a cornerstone of Russian rock music.

Born in Leningrad, Tsoi began his musical journey in his teenage years, crafting an eclectic repertoire that would span ten albums. The band's significant breakthrough came in 1987 with their appearance in the film *Assa*, which ignited a cultural phenomenon known as "Kinomania." Tsoi's prominence in the music scene continued to rise, highlighted by his leading role in the 1988 film *The Needle*, which showcased his artistic versatility.

Following an electrifying concert at Luzhniki Stadium in 1990, Tsoi and guitarist Yuri Kasparyan moved to Latvia to begin working on their next album. Tragically, just two months later, Tsoi's life was cut short in a car accident, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of music.

Considered a pioneer of Russian rock, Tsoi played a crucial role in popularizing the genre across the Soviet Union. His influence endures in various ex-Soviet nations, including Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Lithuania, where he is celebrated as one of the most iconic figures in the history of Russian music.
