Jon Finch

Jon Finch (2 March 1941 – 28 December 2012) was a distinguished English actor celebrated for his remarkable interpretations of Shakespearean characters. Among his most iconic performances was that of Macbeth in Roman Polanski’s acclaimed 1971 film adaptation.

Born in Caterham, Surrey, Finch's film career spanned several decades, showcasing his versatility across various genres. He gained recognition in Alfred Hitchcock's 1972 thriller Frenzy, where he played a man falsely accused of murder. Other notable appearances included the 1978 mystery ensemble Death on the Nile and, in one of his later roles, he portrayed the Catholic Patriarch of Jerusalem (referred to as Heraclius, though unnamed) in Ridley Scott's 2005 epic Kingdom of Heaven.

Interestingly, Finch was originally cast as Kane in Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking science fiction film Alien but had to withdraw due to health issues related to his diabetes. The part ultimately went to John Hurt, who delivered a memorable performance.

Throughout his career, Jon Finch left an indelible mark on stage and screen, earning respect and admiration for his craft until his passing in 2012.
